adidas is having a good start to the year with the brand’s sales increasing by 18.9% to $6.04 billion USD in the first quarter of 2017. The growth, which also means that operating profit has risen by 28.8% to $637.3 million USD, was driven by increased sales in every part of the world other than Russia, with particularly big increases in North America (up 31%) and China (30%). Speaking about the figures, adidas’ chief executive officer, Kasper Rorsted, said that the better-than-expected growth was because “consumer demand for our products was strong across the world.” The news comes after a record-breaking 2016 for the German sportswear brand, with it being the first-ever year that its profits broke the $1 billion USD mark.
According to sneaker expert and NPD’s Sports Industry Analyst Matt Powell, the five top adidas shoes that drove this first quarter growth were the Superstar, the NMD Runner, the Tubular Shadow, the Alpha Bounce and the Stan Smith.
